Celebrating 5 Years of the UNESCO Convention

The European Commission has organised a meeting in Brussels to celebrate the five year anniversary since the UNESCO Convention was first adopted to help promote and protect the diversity of different cultural expressions. The aim of the conference will be to celebrate the amount of progress that the Convention has made since its establishment and to help prove the relevance of UNESO when it comes to globalization. In attendance at the anniversary conference will be about 200 different participants that are a part of the UNESCO including ministers of culture and ministers for development from many countries.

25th anniversary of the European Capitals of Culture

The 25th anniversary of the European Capitals of Culture was celebrated last year on March 23rd with an exhibition that was held in Brussels and a confidence that was fully attended by over 400 reps of future and past capitals as well as many other movers and shakers in the cultural world.

In charge of opening the event was President Jose Manuel Barroso along with aide from Doris Park the chair of the European Capitals of Culture Committee and Commissioner Androulla Vassiliou. According to President Barroso, the aim of the EU is to promote cultural diversity within the EU and that is an aim that is continuing to be met.
